Heavilin Elementary School

Valparaiso Community Schools

Twenty-nine classrooms containing grades K through fifth, are housed within this modern, flexible new elementary. The leading concept of Heavilin Elementary School is the idea of “Community”, in which grade level teams, learning needs, and parent/community interactions are welcome.

This school design contains features such as Small Group Learning areas, STEM, and Large Group Learning space and lab. The use of the gym and cafeteria also serve the community after hours with a separate entrance. In addition to its community functions, there is large emphasis on different styles of learning. Last but not least, there are two outdoor classrooms for learning in this open environment.
